Singing in the Rain - Music & Parables

Ahh there is something about listening to Christian music ... I'm so glad that music doesn't hurt now because it's truly one of the great pleasures of life !

I ought to be in bed asleep but between the music and the thoughts that keep circling, I'm just not ready. I was headed that way though when I remembered something that I wanted to write about. Yesterday I got into a conversation with Gene, my coworker, and we got to talking about the things that people don't understand about scriptures. The parable of the Ten Virgins came up and I found that we both agreed on what it means. That parable has stuck in my mind for years and after much study I realized that the ten were all God-seekers, Christians you might say ... some had oil and some did not. That oil represents the Holy Spirit - it was the thing that the disciples wanted to make sure that new Christians received ... the baptism of the Spirit, the oil. It's the oil that makes the light ... that's the Spirit in us that other people can see.

Okay so why am I thinking about this parable ? Ah, think ... the wise ... and the foolish ... one did not care enough to take oil. They were careless ... they waited for the bridegroom but they did not prepare themselves. Okay Proverbs all over again.
