It's raining kleenex - Relationship

Don't you just hate winter colds ? I'm trying very hard to wean myself from a kleenex and cough drop addiction. There is this two week cold bug thing going around in my neighborhood and do you think I could avoid it ? No, colds love me.

I'm trying some home remedies rather than the pharmaceutical kind that never help me anyway. I'm even feeling kind of biblical about it - after all, honey and garlic are both favorites in the scriptural pantheon ! Despite the residual coughing and congestion I am feeling a lot more alert and that makes me really anxious to get back to the daily bible study that I was doing so maybe I'll have something "wise" to say later. (I'm laughing about that because when you read the scriptures you will find lots of wisdom and if you repeat any of it in the hearing of others they think you're really wise but you know you just read a lot. And pay attention - the paying attention part is important. That's what let's you make connections between the different things you read so that you have what sounds like new thoughts but are really just God's ideas writing themselves over your own !)

I've got several study projects going right now. First there is the New Wine study that I was doing and had to set aside when this cold descended. And of course there are the multi-part weekly studies available from Beth Moore that I like to do. But the one getting the most attention just now is the weekly bible study that we're doing that will run for several more weeks called Can We Talk ? by Patricia Shirer. It's got an interesting format - different from Beth's studies but more in line with how I study naturally. Later when I dig it out to do some of this week's lesson, I'll post something more on that. I don't have it handy just now.

It's hard to stay in the habit of it but regular bible study - not just reading but indepth study - is one of the best things you can do for yourself. When we pray, we're talking TO GOD but when we read and study the scriptures God gets an opportunity to talk TO US. There is a quote that has been sticking in my mind lately - we need a fresh word from God everyday. Yesterday's stale bread and meat is not good enough, we need fresh bread, fresh meat.

Regular two-way conversation is a must if you expect to have a relationship with anyone - even the Creator of the Universe. And THAT is what it's all about. Anyone can have facts and head knowledge - but God is not interested in that - he wants RELATIONSHIP.
